RolandB62
Hi to everybody. I'm new in this forum and have some time to work on GrowFx these days so... I have a simple question : in the old versions of GFx wa had some settings to bend leaves (incremental angle) but with the new version we don't have these options in the mesh builder (I have chosen standard leaves, see in PJ). Is there a solution ? And after that, is there a solution to have some different leaves in the same tree ? Thanks a lot for the help ! Eduard
Hi Roland, You showed a screenshot of the Material Editor Please see in the GrowFX settings... Cheers
RolandB62
Sorry Eduard, I was wrong, and you too quick for me !!!
Eduard
And after that, is there a solution to have some different leaves in the same tree ? Thanks a lot for the help ! You can create any number of leaves types on the same tree. To do this, just create it as an additional paths. If it's not clear, please send me your model, and explain in detail what you need... Thanks!
RolandB62
No it's clear Eduard thanks ! And what about to bend leaves ? I don't find it...
Eduard
leaf-corona-GrowFx.jpg And what about to bend leaves ? I don't find it... You need to use the Leaves mesh builder instead of the Standard leaves! Cheers
RolandB62
Ok thanks a lot (maybe a future option in the standard leaves ?)
Eduard
Ok thanks a lot (maybe a future option in the standard leaves ?) The Standard leaves is a simple rigid mesh, and it maybe different, some of them are impossible to bend as you wish. We plan to add something like Extended leaves mesh, which will be able to deform along its path, like Instanced geometry. Cheers
RolandB62
GrowFx is really amazing... leaves are ok (what do you think ?) One more question : I want to join the trunk and branches naturally as in the example on the left ... what should I do?
Eduard
One more question : I want to join the trunk and branches naturally as in the example on the left ... what should I do? GrowFx-twosided-wip06a.jpg For the trunk and branches please use the Meta mesh builder. It gives a smooth single mesh. Cheers
RolandB62
Ok Eduard. I have to create a distributor, but witch one ? If I take a normal distributor and if I connect a meta mesh nothing happens...
Eduard
I have to create a distributor, but witch one ? If I take a normal distributor and if I connect a meta mesh nothing happens... You must use the MetaMesh for both paths, for the trunk and branches. And it's not dependent on the distributor... Cheers
RolandB62
Ok, as I understand, I have to : 1/ add a path as a trunk : it's ok the line appears, I can modify the lengh etc. 2/ add a meta mesh in the mesh builder; ok add, but when I want to show the mesh (image) my icon disappears and nothing else happens. What is the problem ? (and sorry for those multiple questions...)

What is the problem ? That's right. Just a little move the viewport, ie update it. It will appears, but not immediately. It seems you have 3dsMax 2012, 2013 or 2014, and it's a problem with the Nitrous driver. In 3dsMax 2015 this problem is solved, also there we've improved the viewport display functions. RolandB62
Nothing to do... I have no mesh on my trunk. I have Max2014, I have reset, quit Max and relauch, it's still the same problem. It was so easy with a simple mesh, and so difficult with this meta mesh option I don't understand... Eduard
Maybe you're doing something wrong. Please send me your model, I'll check it. Here's a screenshot, there everything works fine: But I can see the mesh on your screenshot, why you don't like it?
RolandB62
it's the same as you... maybe it's a thing I don't understand : when I choose a type of mesh builder (a meta mesh here) nothing happens, on my computer and on your screenshot too. Where are the other trunks (those three arrows on the icon) ? This is what I don't understand, and how to make them appear !
RolandB62
Eduard... i'm so sorry to have to ask som many questions... I found a solution in this topic and have downloaded the file. I'm looking at to understand how you did it Another question : how can I have random color leaves ? Is it possible with only one leaf ? Eduard
Where are the other trunks (those three arrows on the icon) ? This is what I don't understand, and how to make them appear ! I understand where your mistake You need to add branches. Do the following: 1. Add a new path. 2. Create the "Path distributor" for this path, branches will appear on the trunk in the Lines mode. 3. In the settings select Trunk path as a Starting path, branches will appear on the trunk in the Lines mode. 4. Then, add the MetaMesh builder and switch to the Meshes mode. As a result the branches will connect with the trunk smoothly... Thanks!
Eduard
Another question : how can I have random color leaves ? Is it possible with only one leaf ? To do this, there are 2 ways: 1. Using the Chaos Material ID. You need to create several materials and collect them in a Multi-Sub object material. Then adjust Chaos Material ID parameters in setting mesh builder. 2. Using the Vertex color feature. See GrowFX Help, in the Vertex color section, also here was discussion of all its features. If it's not clear, I can create a simple example. RolandB62
Eduard It's better... I have found the way to use the Metamesh builder and know now how to use it, thanks for your help. I've always, too, worked on the random color of the leaves and took the Chaos Mat id (the vertex color feature is only for colours, not for textures, i don't know). Well here is the result; not bad but not amazing. I want to achieve a result that can be beautiful and realistic, but I think that for two days work it's ok. I've a lot of things to learn, especially with the UVS that are not, for the bark, not very realistic... What is your opinion (and from the forum users) ? Eduard
I've always, too, worked on the random color of the leaves and took the Chaos Mat id (the vertex color feature is only for colours, not for textures, i don't know). BTW, the Vertex color feature can be used to vary the textures as well. Look at the GrowFX MultiMap plugin, it can be downloaded here. How to use this plugin, see here.
