Object Slice - Erase

Recommended Posts

Hi George,

Do you have any other examples of where it's needed?
Just this photo doesn't show the need for this checkbox, there seems branches appear at a certain height of the trunk...

Thanks!

Another example would be a hedge, where aside from the end piece, you might want to create a section piece where leaves don't grow on those inner 2 sides, so you'd use a regular Object Slice on the branches, then an Object Slice with Erase for the leaves.

edit: Apparently someone has done it in real life too, not just for instancing purposes!

To get this effect you could just perform the object slice on the "twigs" path that contains the leaves, and all the previous  paths as well. That way when the path is sliced you would still get full leaves up to the cut instead of sliced leaves.

If you were using a program like railclone to create the shrub you could just change the padding value to get the joint to look seamless.

Something like this would be great for self intersection though. Sometimes it is difficult to create branches an a way that avoids collisions with other branches on the same tree. This characteristic is critical for realistic plant material.

Yip...avoiding self-intersection of the same plant paths is high up on the request list for me.
