Lantrancy
I'm trying to build some realy large models and it seems growfx still single-threaded, not using all power of my cpu, pretty slow any suggestion?
ptrain03
I don't think meta mesh is multiprocessor functional yet. I don't really know about the rest. I usually just up my segment length and minimum face size. also the "stop stitching" option under meta mesh will help. One last thing is the "disable meta mesh" checkbox in the preferences section. I always keep meta mesh turned off as much as I can. how big are your models ? also one other checkbox that will dramatically decrease your face count is the "disable central axis" in the leaves mesh tab. another thing I like to do when working on big trees is to drop down to one of the initial paths, "like the second or third one", write down the density so I don't forget and then drop the density until there are only a few branches. Then I work on the rest of the tree. When I get the other branches looking the way I want I reset the density of the initial path I dropped earlier. That way I am adding fine detail to a much smaller tree and I don't have to wait on processing. hope it helps.
Eduard
Hi ptrain03, Thanks for the helpful tips! Yes, the meta mesh algorithm uses a single thread, but in the future we plan to implement multithreading. Regarding other mesh builders, at the moment, starting with GrowFX 1.9.5, we've disabled multithreading. This was done to accelerate the creation of meshes, because the process of creating threads takes too much time, and the creation of the usual trees is getting slow. But we'll optimize these algorithms, and will implement multithreading for very large trees. Thanks!
austingrd
Also, it would'n hurt if users can be given the option to do this. Like for Meta Mesh Algorithm, users can either choose single or multi thread.
