Vertex color leaves variation

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am new to GrowFX and I must say this tool amaze me. It is indeed a complete tool for foliage creation! :)

Anyways, I looked up the website and the forum for an explination on how to use vertex color for leaf variation, but couldn't find what I needed.

There are really beautiful renders by 3DMK for a tree with and without the use of vertex color, I tried to acheive a similar result but seems like I am missing something regarding VC and couldn't get to set it up right to create variation.

Any advice or suggestion would be really appreciated!

Thanks,

Moh'd

Hi Moh'd,

Here I present one ways how you can use the vertex color to generate leaves with color variation.

For example, we'll use our Oak 2:

T1.png

For branches B_2 we turn on the VC, and adjust the Coloring Elements as follows:

T2.png

For branches B_3 we turn on the VC, and turn on the Inherit from parent:

T3.png

For Leaves, we also turn on the VC, and turn on the Coloring Elements, it will generate a random color. Then we add the Inherit from parent to 60%, to inherit the colors from the branches B_2:

T4.png

The texture can be created like this:

T5.png

If you want to mix more than 2 textures, you can use our plugin-texture GrowFX MultiMap...

Result:

Result2.jpg

Download this example: Oak_2.max

Cheers

Great tool for variance.

However, how would you use this method with Vray 2-Sided Materials where you wanted to use an opacity map and translucency map in addition to a diffuse map (using a standard leaves plane mesh). You can't really blend between two different opacities and translucencies surely?

Well at least I've been trying with no luck...

Thanks

Maybe you need to use Blend material instead of Mix texture map...
