Presets

First of all hello everyone.

The new mesh builder looks promising, very much looking forward to that. However what I've been missing from day one are presets for some of the main tree types. Onyx has libraries and I'm sure you guys have generated decent conifer and boardleaf trees while developing so I can't help but wonder why we still have no presets with GrowFX. Anything to do with the fact that rendering.ru sells trees that look like they've been made with GrowFX?

Anyhow, most of us are busy with our jobs and while the vast number of settings is of course awesome, it is also pretty overwhelming to anyone that does not have time to make trees as a full time job. I bought GrowFX when it first came out, and now after about a year and a half later, I'd say it would be a good time to get some libraries to work with.

Unfortunately, we don't have comprehensive plants library, we have only a few examples that delivers with the installer.

Soon, I think we'll add a few basic models, and in the future will expand this library.

Cheers

Hi and thanks for the reply. Glad to hear! Awesome plugin but very time consuming to get the most out of it :)

I would have to agree with this sentiment. This is an awesome tool with great capabilities but a complex one at that. I have immediate need for a particular type of tree (fir tree), only need to adjust a few branches then create a mesh so I can hit the tree with a vehicle and break the tree upon impact. A library of starting point trees would be very handy since it will take me quite a while to become totally comfortable with the complete UI.

Also, I can not find any tree presets with my current install. Not sure if something wasn't installed correctly.

Thanks!

Yes, the new installation package doesn't contain any examples. We have removed them to reduce the package size. We plan to soon add on our website the plants library for separate download, and then gradually increase it.

Nevertheless, you may download the existing examples from the link below:

What kind of plug-ins is missing? Please show the error fully...

Maybe you didn't correctly install the plugin? You're able to create a new GrowFX object?

Hi all [i am a new user]

I would have to agree that a lack of presets [even a simple tree library] is one of the things missing in GrowFX.

I have been using Onyx for years & the best thing about it is the ability to quickly change/tweak a tree from the library.

Some potential users may even be scared of buying GrowFX without even a small libray to start with.

I take back what I said about presets......After using GrowFx for a little while now I have come to understand that The REAL power of GrowFX is actually understanding how it works. Then the sky is the limit. Presets don't help you understand HOW things work. I think really well made TUTORIALS are far more important as in the end you learn the software properly so you are not limited by presets.

I do understand that presets are good for some who may not have the time or patience to learn it.

So it's been almost a year.. how about it, Eduard? :) I've done a lot of ground cover plants and the like, but I clearly lack some relevant skill in understanding and mimicing more complex trees. Okay, I've done some decent trees also but one in particular that gives me headache is a maple tree which just happens to be one of my favorites in real life. I mean I can get it to look close to one but still the branch hierarchy just seems off somehow and I've started from scratch about a thousand times and feel like now I'm stuck repeating the same mistakes every time.

I'm talking about a tree like this: Field Maple --- Maple View

I especially love the way the maple branches spread to create these kind of evened out "platforms" so the leafs get as much of the direct sunlight as possible: The Delicate Maple and my results so far look somewhat close but still very forced :( Any chance you have a maple template lying around?

Wow, that puts all my earlier efforts to shame! I need to study that tree and try to figure out what it is that makes my trees oftentimes look so "forced". Thank you Eduard for both the tree and the quick reply!
