nakama
hi figured that max 2012 is crashing when loading saved files. doesnt matter wich versions if max2011 or max2012. the growfx tree is from your library and the maxfile is plain except the growfx element. max2012 is installed as 64bit on an 8 core xeon system. Eduard
Hi Nakama, What files of our library, you open with crash of 3ds Max? Thanks!
nakama
i used a new scene... and opened oak1 from your library. when i save that scene and try to open it, it crashes. ... but didn't worked with the betula preset either... so i guess it had to do with something else. Eduard
Hi Nakama, I tested as you described in Max 2012 (64bit), but I didn't get any crashes, everything works fine. We'll be testing more this, maybe will find some bug... Cheers
nakama
Hmm... well i found something interesting on my 8core xeon it works ... (most of the time, not always) ... i tried on a 24 core (12+hyperthreading) ... there it crashes regulary.

(most of the time, not always) ... i tried on a 24 core (12+hyperthreading) ... there it crashes regulary. Thanks for the info! We'll try to test this. Because we have only 8 cores (4+hyperthreading), we'll try to run a 24 threads to build a GrowFX model. Maybe there is a bug related with multithreading, and it occurs only with a large number of cores, don't know yet. I'll let you know the test results... nakama
Hi, i turned hyperthreading off at the 12/24 core hp z800 ... but still it keeps crashing. I'm not sure what it is, maybe something within the max-scene itself. as i could open other grow-fx.max files which are posted here in the forum. so see attached the betula test (max12 file) betula_test.max
Eduard
Hi Nakama, Many thanks for your file! We've found a bug, now we'll fix it, and upload the update. I'll inform when it is ready... Thanks again, Eduard
Eduard
Hi Nakama, The problem is that you have other system and display units as compared with ours. Please let me know your system and display units settings, to I could fully reproduce the error. Thanks!
nakama
I'm using cm as system unit and metric-cm as display units on both machines.
Eduard
I'm using cm as system unit and metric-cm as display units on both machines. Thanks for the info, but it didn't help us We can try the following... I'll send you a special update, and you repeat the same operations: in a new scene open our tree (Betula_1.gfx), then save it as a max file and open it again. If you notice any messages, let me know... An update I'll send you by email... Thanks!
nakama
Thank you... i tried, but it still crashes when opening the previous saved file. what is strange, that when i open the max file which is provided with in your tree-library. then it works. Currently i'm involved in work and i'll try to test on this issue at the weekend.
Eduard
Your file that you have attached here is corrupt, that is it doesn't need to open. Just please repeat your first steps that I described above... Thanks!
nakama
Just came in my mind. I'm using Max 2012 Design. But i'll further look into this issue with corrupt file savings this weekend.
