Hi Eduard, Is there any way of stopping the Stoping Meta-mesh from updating when it shouldn't need to such as when you changes leaves. I always end up wanting to tweak things AFTER I have made a meta-mesh even when I try to leave that till the last. Turning on manual update whilst tweaking is not helpfull in this instance as it still does the meta-mesh once you update. Thanks again for your time Jamie

Noise direction modifier and start of the path

I do the same as ptrain03 --- I Don't think there is any other way -
Hi All, Here is a Modern Cottage/style garden. All plants & trees made using GrowFX. C&C welcome Cheers Jamie

Thanks again...I can't wait to give it a try. Cheers Jamie

Thanks for the explanations Eduard. Can't wait till it becomes part of GrowFX ...... any idea when the next update may be??? Sorry if I sound pushy...I'm just very keen that's all.! Jamie

Hi Eduard, You are now on the TOP of my christmas present list...lol. Thanks again for taking the time to listen to users & impliment our needs...3 Cheers! It looks absolutely AWESOME!!!! And it will make a big difference to the quality of the trees & plants. [it was the ONLY thing I kept wishing GrowFX had....no more wishing!!!] Here are a few questions as to how it will work. I notice that the leaves are using their path postition along the stem for their colour....Can the leaf/mesh use it's own path [so that a leaf/stem/branch has a blend from tip to end. Will this work the same on the leaves so that they get a colour from the STEM path but can they also blend this with their own vertex colour from their own Leaf path. so that This way you would get a VC blending from the tip to the end of the leaf as well as the vc colours from leaf to leaf Not sure if that's possible??.. as you would need to be able to blend 2 different Vertex colours. This would be the best option for TOTAL control of vc colours. Are you able to put multiple colours in the Gradiant ramp??? 2 Colours seems possibly limited? I guess I could just use a MAX Gradiant Ramp in the USE TEXTURE SLOT??? Will it work on the Standard Leaf Presets, or just the leaf mesh??? Anyway that's all I can think of at the moment. Thanks so much again for the VC implimentation Eduard.....I can't explain how excited I was reading your post about it this morning.....WELL DONE & thanks for making my day!! Jamie

ptrain03 I tried to do the same thing for a tree & used parameter path position- affects> size then manualy created a saw like curve in the curve editor with different heights -Takes a bit longer but you have ultimate control using the curve editor to get just the amount or variation you need. NOTE! To make more realistic you want the last leaves [the new growth at the tip] to get gradually smaller than the first [older] leaves. [99.9% of all trees grow this way.] Random size leaves would only look good in certain situations [like grasses, etc] Hope this helps
-
Thanks Eduard As well as improving realism, Vertex colours are also very quick & easy to work with [rather than making many differnt colour maps & ID,s] Thanks again for looking at this...I can't wait! Jamie

Thanks Eduard....I'll send you it today Jamie

I take back what I said about presets......After using GrowFx for a little while now I have come to understand that The REAL power of GrowFX is actually understanding how it works. Then the sky is the limit. Presets don't help you understand HOW things work. I think really well made TUTORIALS are far more important as in the end you learn the software properly so you are not limited by presets. I do understand that presets are good for some who may not have the time or patience to learn it. Jamie

90% of the thanks must go to GrowFX .....what awesome software! Yes you need a lot of patience at first to try & understand all the different parameters but once it starts to make sense your mind starts to really open up to all the possibilities of what you can make. Only took me a week or so to make the transition from Onxy to GrowFX so the interface is actually very well thought out. It's just there's a LOT of parameters to tweak which take a while to get through & remember. All the best with your modeling Cheers Jamie

Hi, I must be doing something wrong as everytime I try to save a Preset [even a simple one] & load it Max crashes. Anyone else have this issue???? Max 2008 64bit I would love to share some presets but obviously I need to find out how to do it properly Cheers Jamie

Hi Eduard, Have you had any luck implimenting Vertex Colours at all???? I really think this is the ONLY thing missing from your awesome software. The more I use GrowFX the more I think it is just so far advanced than Onyx, so much more intuitive & so much more tweakable. Congratulations again.....All I want to do is build trees & plants ALL day now that I can build them they way I want [unlike onyx] Cheers Jamie

Nice Work. The branches look very realistic....so well done Cheers Jamie

AWESOME! Thanks for taking a look at vertex colours as IMO they are such a nessecity for true realism. Can't wait to see what you SMART programers come up with!!!!!I am sure it will be great....everything else seems that way. Thanks Jamie

Hi, Just a quick post to see if it's possible to impliment vertex colours into the GrowFX object?? This would add more realism such as when the new leaves are a lighter colour green or even yellow or red. Would be awesome if you could assign vertex colours based on the path percentage [with a gradiant ramp or colour swatches that blend] I always found vertex colours [both controled & random] is one of the main reasons onyx trees look realistic. Kind regards Jamie

Thanks so much for the response Eduard! I am looking forward to doing some cool stuff with GrowFX. It seems possible to almost anything with it!! Especially love the meta-mesh....congratulations on implimenting that one as it just adds soo much more realism. Cheers Jamie

Hi All, A new user here saying Hi and really happy to see how awesome GrowFX is now I have a bit of a play with it. I did run into a few issues with trying to maximise time spent tweaking/changing things. Here are a couple of things I noticed staight away, that seem to really slow down the process. - Creating NEW curve points Is it possible to Copy & paste the max Curve values/points??? -Creating a meta mesh Is it possible to copy & paste the cylinder mesh parameters to the meta mesh [such as diameter, affects values] I guess being able to copy & paste as many things as possible would help to increase workflow when testing/tweaking. Thanks for your time jamie

Hi all [i am a new user] I would have to agree that a lack of presets [even a simple tree library] is one of the things missing in GrowFX. I have been using Onyx for years & the best thing about it is the ability to quickly change/tweak a tree from the library. Some potential users may even be scared of buying GrowFX without even a small libray to start with. Cheers Jamie
